One of the things that is new to many international students (especially students from Asia in my opinion) is the Easter holidays. Exact date of Easter changes yearly, but it is always on a Sunday between March 22nd and April 25th. Easter is a Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. It is a time of the year where families and friends gather around for a meal and (possibly) an Easter egg hunt.
Easter egg hunt differs from country to country. In South Africa, they have Chocolate Marshmallows, while in the United States, they seemed to have more different varieties of sweets/eggs for the children.
Unlike Thanksgiving, which I assume is about eating Turkey, people eat all sorts of dishes for Easter. A friend of mine whose family comes from Vietnam served us rice noodles (Pho) and Thai curry, my supervisor at work (At the campus dining hall) told me that his family eats some potato dish (family recipe), while my co-worker told me that his family eats all sorts of sandwiches during Easter.
Going to a local church could give a better sense of understanding Easter as many of these churches (or just people who goes to that church) or bible study groups have Easter lunch/dinner where they invite different people for food. I highly recommend University Reformed Church and Bridges. (a Christian Student group at MSU)
